It actually will fit a tablet and my journal. The main compartment is small, but there is a tablet pocket that I was unaware of. My 10.5" tablet barely fits, as long as it's not in a case. It seems fairly well padded. The rest of the compartment fit my A5 journal, my wallet, hand lotion, and a few other small items.
The front accordion style compartment has a zippered section, and then a wallet section with card slots. This section will hold quite a bit as long as you haven't packed the main compartment to capacity. This pocket and the front zippered section as as deep as the main compartment.
The rear and very front zippered pouches won't hold much more than very thin items. They are also not secure pockets. The zippers do not lock. The rear compartment is not as deep as the rest of them.
The water bottle holder actually fit my 34 oz cup. I believe it will still hold it well, even if it full.
The bag will not stand up on it's own, you have to lean it back against something, or it will role forward.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the bag. It would serve me better if it was an inch or two wider, and if the accordion pocket zipped down further. (Posted on 1/20/2017)
